Welcome to scanning tips, a brand new section. Here, I'll try to cover some of the common problems I've encountered and how I dealt with it. Now, I don't presume to be an expert on scanning. Far from it, I'm still learning new stuff all the time, either through fooling around with Photoshop, or from watching other scanners' finished work. When I started scanning, there was precious little stuff out there. Hell, the Internet wasn't all that popular then. Flatbed scanners then cost an outrageous amount, and their performance were middling even compared to today's cheapest models.

I learned through trial and error, but mostly through error. But along the way, I picked up a few pointers. This section is about some of those experiences I've gained. Most of the steps I'll outline are specific to Adobe Photoshop, but the general principles could be applied to other software packages.

By the way, I welcome feedback from all you surfers out there. As they say, there's more than one way to skin a cat. If you know of another method, or a particularly elegant solution to a problem, please let me know. I'll post your solutions and comments for others.
